R-22 is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerant historically used in residential and commercial air conditioning systems. Due to its ozone-depleting properties, production/import is banned in the U.S. under the EPA’s phase-out (2020). Only reclaimed or stockpiled R-22 is legally available.
